Family-Focused Education

Parents should have the power to make decisions about their children’s education. Parents should have the opportunity to send their children to neighborhood schools, charter schools, magnet schools, independent schools, religious schools, or to home school – free from the interference of the Federal Department of Education. Intrusive policies from Washington, such as the so-called “Common Core” curriculum that Larry fought as state senator, should be eliminated.

Having a consistent conservative "record" requires commitment. I have dedicated the last 15 years to public service, earning recognition for my work helping to improve South Carolina's schools:
  • Golden Apple Award, South Carolina Chapter, National Coalition for Public School Options, 2011
  • Legislator of the Year, Palmetto Charter Network, 2009
  • Legislator of the Year, South Carolina Public Charter School Association, 2004
  • Board member, Southern Methodist College, 2006-
  • Board of Visitors, Charleston Southern University, 1996-
